At age 14, my first video filmed starred my best friend and the hill at the back of his house. The video is very ordinary, walking up a hill to my favorite music at the time. I attempted to make intricate cuts at the beat of the music with no thought for patterns or rhythm with free editing software. It was very disorganized, but I was ecstatic with the final product. Stories, sounds, and movements draw many emotions and memories that I want to share with others. I spent the next eight years consuming media like movies, documentaries, and music videos in an attempt to recreate them in Adobe Premiere.
I joined a multimedia class in my sophomore year of high school. My teacher introduced me to graphic art with the tools Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I was so obsessed with creating art I asked friends in the same class having a difficult time if I could do their homework. Graphic design became a new addition to my hobby. I learned new techniques after school and on weekends to get the art piece just right. I discovered that colleges provide digital media programs and degrees.
In my communications class, four other students and I were tasked with showcasing something on campus. My peers let me create a promotional video for the Jaguar Market at SJCC. This drive brought me from a quick video edit to enrolling in SJSU's DMA program.
What I hope to achieve is to expand my experience. In addition, I would like to work with fellow video producers and graphic designers. I value the inputs my peers make because they provide a refreshing new perspective. Currently, being a video editor for any company is my plan. Learning from talented individuals will increase my understanding of techniques passed down from experts. Eventually, I plan to become a wedding videographer that can satisfy any client. Documenting such an important day would be an honor. I will reach high expectations if allowed to perform.
